First Look: The All New 2020 Lincoln Aviator

If you are ready for a new Lincoln SUV, you have something to look forward to this fall. Last week, I went to the launch of the all-new 2020 Lincoln Aviator at the dressed up, Evergreen BrickWorks.

I will do more of a comprehensive review when I get my hands on one for a test drive. But, the stats right now listed on Lincoln’s website suggest a Twin-Turbocharged 3.0L V6 motor and a battery-fueled electric engine making it one of their most powerful cars with regards to torque. Something that I can’t wait to try out for myself.

I had a chance to talk with the chief designer of the Lincoln Aviator, and he mentioned that there are three touchpoints when it comes to the customer experience from an interior perspective. When the consumer first sits down, then when they touch the steering wheel, and their general sense of their environment through their senses. They focused on all of these touchpoints when it comes to building a new interior space for the Aviator.

He mentioned the smaller details about how he took colour ideas from previous Lincoln vehicles from decades earlier. This mixed with the details of a two-toned interior brings to life a new look and feel compared to interior spaces of other Lincoln vehicles.

Another interesting aspect of the Aviator to note was the sounds and notifications alerting the driver. The routine sounds that you usually tune out have become a focus for the new Aviator. The sounds and notifications have been replaced with orchestral sounds from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, how nice. We had a taste of these sounds as an orchestral band sampled these sounds during the presentation and unveiling of the vehicle. It was great to see a new take on a mundane feature of a car.

The outside is a wonderful shape for the new Lincoln, not too boxy or aggressively streamlined. Designed well from front to back, it’s a vehicle of both shape and stature.

The Bottom Line

I am really enjoying the momentum of Lincoln vehicles after the redesign from the older models and the Lincoln Aviator is no different. I will keep you informed of the driving capabilities when it becomes available, but this is an exciting step for Lincoln’s line-up and fits right in between the new Nautilus and the Navigator, size wise.
