Tiffany & Co. Celebrates 175th Anniversary With New Collections

[T]he Tiffany Blue Box, something that awaits surprise and anticipation, something so iconic that it can be recognized from a mile away. So how do you celebrate an iconic jewellery box and world class jewellery company’s 175th birthday?

Well to commemorate Tiffany & Co.’s lustrous 175 year career, after becoming a household name in jewellery business, Tiffany & Co. celebrates their amazing milestone with the unveiling of RUBEDO™ metal, a new jeweller’s metal. RUBEDO™ metal is the first such creation in Tiffany’s history and takes its place among the most beautiful metals in the world RUBEDO.

Metallurgists experimented with different alloys over a long testing period until they achieved the desired colour, radiant with the glow of “first light” that awakens a sense of wonder and ennobles the spirit. In addition, this unique alloy is lightweight yet strong, polishes to a smooth luster and is exceptionally flattering to the skin.

RUBEDO™ metal is the company’s latest in a history of innovations in metallurgy. Tiffany was the first American company to incorporate the 925/1000 British standard of silver purity. Largely through the efforts of founder Charles Lewis Tiffany, the U.S. government adopted the standard, and later, the jeweller’s standard for platinum (.950 pure), as well.

Tiffany & Co. has long reigned as the world’s diamond authority, producing luxurious and stylish jewellery that has been carried through an iconic history and enjoyed by millions of people. The beauty of Tiffany’s brilliantly cut diamonds and jewellery design now mark a 175th anniversary, truly celebrating the success of an extraordinary jeweller.

In 1837, Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young established Tiffany & Young, a fancy goods emporium in New York City. These pieces had a non-negotiable sales price, which caused headlines with the public, and brought more attention to their company. Moreover in the same year, the iconic Tiffany Blue Box was introduced. This distinctive colour was and still is a staple in Tiffany & Co’s branding and representing the company’s devotion to craftsmanship and quality.

This famous blue colour is recognizable from far and wide and exudes style and elegance at the same time.

With the definitive Blue Box paving the way for Tiffany & Co. to grow, some other important dates in history also define how the company’s success still grows today.

Over the next 100 years from their start, the introduction of the Tiffany Blue Book and the Tiffany Silver collections made a strong statement in the jewellery market. Not too long after, Tiffany renamed the company to Tiffany & Co., and the company made it’s home on 5th Ave in New York, and opened up additional stores all around the world. These are just some of the moves that positioned Tiffany & Co. to be a world class success.

One of the most iconic pieces in Tiffany & Co.’s history is the 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond, which was the biggest yellow diamond in the world, bought by Charles Tiffany in 1878.

In celebration of the 175th Anniversary, the Tiffany Diamond has been set in a spectacular diamond and platinum necklace. Over a year in the making, the elegant necklace of white diamonds totals over 120 carats and features 20 Lucida® diamonds and 58 brilliant-cut diamonds. The Diamond’s mounting is designed with 481 sparkling stones. 481! The Diamond has been set on four previous occasions, two of which involve original designs by Jean Schlumberger, Tiffany’s renowned jewellery designer.

With lots of pedigree and signature moments shaping the company’s unique history, the company debuts a new jewellery collection that reflects a long tradition of nature-inspired jewels that has evolved over Tiffany’s 175-year history.
