2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupé to bring power and performance to the M lineup
We have come a long way from the classic BMW sports cars like the vintage BMW M1. The style, the smooth performance, the even weight distribution, and controllable power, but there is a new M in town, hoping to live up to the same name the M mark has established over the last 30+ years.
Next summer, the new 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupé will join the BMW M5, M6 Coupé and the rest of the M family, to make a grand Canadian debut and we cannot wait. But what’s the difference? Why should we even listen and pay attention? Well if the new M6 has any pedigree like the lineup before it, then we will have ourselves quite the car.
The M6 Gran Coupé is an high performance, four-door Coupé, that is shows off the BMW M badge with pride. This Gran Coupé has racing-bred technology and terrific features with a second-to-none attitude and style. The well-designed Coupé gives you the sensation that it will include ergonomics and well thought out materials that will provide the driver with some spirited fun.
The M6 will sport a 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine, which will be the most powerful engine ever fitted to an M production vehicle. This powerhouse under the hood will produce 500 lb-ft of torque and 560 horsepower, which will make the M6 act like the agile BMW M3.
Count to four and wait a couple milliseconds more and you just launched the M6 from 0 – to 100 km/h.
But how do you get that kind of acceleration, in a Gran Coupé? Additional to the power-packed engine, it must be the 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission or maybe it could be the Active M Differential, which takes the power and distributes the power between the front and back tires so well. Or it could be that with the help of a radical chassis and a well thought out suspension that will make the car so rigid, yet smooth. It’s the work of all of these components working together to create an awe-inspiring acceleration statistic.
What is really interesting about the new M6 Gran Coupé is the work/life balance between power and fuel. BMW has really worked on making the vehicle more fuel efficient while keeping the V8 fun and powerful. BMW has really tuned this car well, outputting 10% more power than the M V-10 engine, while increasing the torque by 30%. Quite impressive! A V-8 engine that is more powerful than a V-10? Sounds good to us.
The M engineers for this car has tuned this car based on extensive testing at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, so the car is built for precision and speed, and with the addition of the Dynamic Damper Control system, it’s built for ride comfort that can be adjusted with a touch of a button. You can even choose to have high performance Carbon Ceramic Brakes.
With all the possible options you can have for suspension, brakes and other performance upgrades, it’s like having a racing driver dressed up in business casual. You just don’t know what it’s fully capable of. The interior provides driver to easily control the 10.2″ entertainment center console of the car using the iDrive control system, while everyone can enjoy the spacious seating of a 4-door, 4+1 seating arrangement. Suddenly riding from A to B doesn’t seem that stressful anymore.
The 2013 BMW M6 Gran Coupé will wear the M badge with pride, showcasing a new class of BMW M models, while hiding the most powerful M engine ever fitted under the hood. So this car will be quick, smooth, and very comfortable for everyone inside it. Lets just say, we are really looking forward to the summer.
The new BMW M6 Gran Coupé will fill Canadian BMW showrooms summer of 2013 and pricing, final specifications and other figures and options will be announced closer to the official launch date.
