The Parliament Oak Hotel: Niagara-On-The Lake’s Newest Hotel Property Announced

A more grand hotel announced in Niagara-on-the-lake? Count me in.

I’ve seen my fair share of hotels, resorts, and places that claim to be the next big thing. But let me tell you, when I heard about the Parliament Oak Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake, I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. This has the potential of being quite a statement hotel in the Niagara Region, let alone Ontario.

Did you know that Google searches for luxury hotels in Niagara completely outweigh any search for luxury hotels in Toronto on a monthly basis? People are looking for a reason to come over the border to enjoy some relaxing wine region far more than a traffic-filled downtown experience.

Now, just to give you a heads up, this is in its pre-construction phase at the moment, but this is what we know so far.

A New Chapter for Niagara-on-the-Lake

A quaint little town, known for its wineries, theaters, and being a destination for lots and lots of people from the US.

Now, imagine dropping a brand new hotel right in the middle of the downtown area. Two Sisters Resorts looks like it has something up its sleeves and with their success in the region, seems like this was the perfect opportunity to jump on a stately project.

They have kept their cards close to their chest, but here is what we know about the property so far.

Location, Location, Location

Let’s talk location.  If you’re a local, you might remember it as the old Parliament Oak school property located on 325 King Street. Four acres of prime real estate, ready for development. This is the perfect balance of longstanding history mixed with a new, refreshed lease on life for the Parliament Oak Hotel.

Two Sisters Resorts: Transforming the Landscape

Two Sisters Resorts has a nice sprawling plan for the Parliament Oak Hotel. Something more of a french chateau in terms of the grounds and what you can find on them. Not your typical brown and beige, carpark-filled plaza looking hotel. This has some charm to it right out of the gate.

Parliament Oak Hotel Features and Amenities

The original pitch of the Parliament Oak Hotel is that it consists of approximately 130 suites. The plan also consists of conference rooms and banquet facilities, a personal service establishment, a restaurant, including an outdoor patio terrace space, luxury spa, landscaped open space at the rear of the hotel and retail use.

The building has plenty of parking spots as well. Reported 240 parking spots.

Which to be honest, if you have parked in Niagara-On-The-Lake, you realize how much of a benefit that is. No need to find street parking or park a mile away from where you are supposed to be. You can just park and walk all over town. With the strong location, it makes it that much easier to enjoy the area.

Impact on Tourism and Local Economy

Niagara region, especially Niagara-On-The-Lake is already such a hot destination in Ontario. Whether it’s local for weddings, Americans coming across the border, Niagara Falls pulling tourists in, or those who love the winery tours, the area could benefit from a hotel this size and will likely bring a lot more focus, busyness and traffic downtown.

If you live in Niagara-On-The-Lake, this might bring some mix feelings, especially with the influx of tourists coming and construction of the hotel downtown, but I think it’s for the better, considering the sheer amount of people that come every year to the area. This has the potential of being a statement for the area and long-standing heritage hotel.

Conclusion

This is what we know so far about The Parliament Oak Hotel – Niagara-on-the-Lake’s newest crown jewel.  The property has a strong potential for adding to the charm of the region but also standing out from the area.

It feels like the start of something big and I believe its a great addition to the area and I will continue looking towards news and updates coming from the project.
