With Valentine’s Day coming up next week, elaborate or romantic outings are often tough to dream up. So why not do something fun with your sweetheart? Why not take a class on making really delicious desserts?

Wednesday, we were invited to Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts to make our own chocolate, a very nice way to spend the afternoon.

Other media people from Cosmo TV and an assortment of other bloggers there, who were all anticipating the making, and most important, eating of delicious chocolate.

Bonnie Gordon College

The Bonnie Gordon College had recently moved to their new Calendonia and Eglington facility and we had one of the first walk throughs since it’s open. The new facility was clean, bright, big and held everything it needed to, to turn beginners (like us) into artisans of cakes, chocolates, and an assortment of other desserts and pastries.

We were greeted by Bonnie Gordon herself and toured around the facility before coming to the classroom, where students of Bonnie were all prepped and ready to teach us how to make delicious chocolate.

The instructors were breaking down the importance of tempering, pre-crystallization, spreading out the chocolate on marble slabs, and the consistency of the chocolate, which were all summing up to a tastier end result. While she was talking, pouring out the chocolate and producing ganache, it was tough to stay focused because our stomach’s were trying to get all of our attention.

We learned about the difference between ganache that has been poured out on the marble slab and ganache that has not, and eventually got to make our own ganache that would later go on the rolled, bare truffles.

The Bottom Line

Overall, it was a great experience, and if you have the chance of taking a class, take one! Special thanks goes to the Sparks Twins and the Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts for the tasty and educational event.

If you want to do something for Valentine’s Day, a birthday, or just to give your sweetheart something thoughtful, engaging and fun to do, then try a class and become a dessert boss!
