What To Do In An Afternoon in Gananoque
I’m in beautiful Gananoque to familiarize myself with a new condominium development called Stone & South Condominiums, by Kingston, ON developer, CaraCo Development Corporation.
My day was filled with different adventures over the course of two days. After getting here, I was happy to explore a place I visited as a child but was too young to remember.
My journalism colleagues and I took the 2.5 hr Via Rail from Toronto to Kingston; then drove to beautiful Gananoque, which only took about 20 minutes.
We dropped our bags off at the Gananoque Inn and walked to a catered lunch at the Thousand Islands Boat Museum to learn about all the different activities and experiences the Museum is creating with schools around the area.
If you want to put your child to work, especially you are into the boating lifestyle and find out they are on their phones too much, you can encourage them to learn more about how a boat is built fully from the ground up. There were even boats there that were fully built by local school children.
If you are a boat collector, Thousand Islands Boat Museum will be building out a beautiful, huge indoor/outdoor waterfront dock in the years to come. This development will showcase boats that have a particularly interesting story and tie back to Gananoque. With this in mind, you and your family can enjoy the sights of boats up-close that you would either see in hiding or see whiz past you through the islands.
After a well-presented history lesson of the area and seeing what great activities are offered, we next cruised a pathway through the famous Thousand Islands. If you like island-hopping abroad, then this might be a great way to bring that feeling home to Canada.
It’s both scenic and peaceful streaming through the islands, but also very interesting to see how creative people can be with building their homes on such tiny islands. It was said that some islands worth millions of dollars today were traded for a few dollars, rum and other spirited things back then.
After a beautiful Italian dinner at Riva, a short walk from the Stone + South Condos, we visited the Thousand Islands Playhouse, where we saw a very lively musical bio of the late, great Buddy Holly with talented actors, who played multiple roles and instruments throughout the show.
The Bottom Line
This is just a taste of what’s happening in Gananoque, but the real reason why we are here is Stone and South Condos.
