History
What is different about One King West then most newer condos or hotels is the fact that it has a rich heritage. One King West was first utilized as a home for the Michie & Co. Grocers & Wine Merchants and then, in 1879, became the head office of The Dominion Bank (TD Bank) for the next 126 years.
The 12-storey building was constructed with Renaissance Revival detailing and was the work of Darling and Pearson as architects of the project in partnership with Harkness and Oxley, both engineers. Further down the line in 1999 the building changed hands and was known as a heritage building and then was converted to a residential building nicknamed, ‘The Silver‘.
The Silver, the tower above the original development, was added in 2006, and the One King West was born!
Suites
The suites for One King West range in size from Studio to the Premium One Bedroom and the Feature Suites. The square footage varies between 359-419 sq ft for the Studio and all the way up to 790 sq ft for the Feature suites. Some of the highlights for these suites are the high ceilings, ensuite washer and dryer, beautiful views of Toronto and Lake Ontario, king-sized beds, hi-speed internet, individual climate control, an in-room safe.
Amenities
The amenities for the One King West are very impressive, bringing convenience and functionality to the residents of the building. Amenities include a Rooftop Fitness Centre located on the 17th floor, which is a nice way to slim down while living large with panoramic views of Lake Ontario. The gym is full equipped with ‘King sized’ hot tub for a great after-workout soak, sauna, and innovative resistance pool.
Other amenities include concierge, convenient parking, private limousine services, the Bistro on King, 24/7 business centre, room service, 24-hour security, and a huge plus if you are living in downtown Toronto, direct access to the Path and TTC.
News
It was reported in spring 2011 that over 2 million dollars will be spent in renovations for the property and pour energy in to common areas for more people to enjoy as well as renew event spaces with eco-responsible materials and functionality.
“The aim is to celebrate the history of a space built nearly 100 years ago by tying in modern finishes and textures with the classic design elements within the hotel,” said One King West Sales and Marketing Director Matt Black.
The two million dollar upgrade brought forth new furniture, beautiful wall coverings, updated business centre, increased venue space, and the restoration of their beautiful clock located in the Grand Banking Hall (shown below). The two-million-dollar upgrade will also dedicate one million dollars to make One King West more energy efficient.
Since then, One King West launched its a mobile application for guests to take advantage of the hotel’s myriad services and the Bistro on King is now offering a Sunday Brunch for guests and residents to enjoy.
