Read This Before You Buy The New Apple AirPods Max Wireless Headphones

Apple has launched its Apple AirPods Max, a new over-ear design that uses interesting new materials, different looks and is a very ‘Apple’ take on headphones.

They feature high-fidelity audio performance, fast wireless connectivity, active noise-canceling, and spatial audio for different ranging audio switching situations.

Quick Things To Note About The Apple AirPods Max

These wireless headphones have an H1 chip within them to activate smart technologies and connectivity, like Siri, to your already upgraded audio experience. They do not come with a cord for plugging into an audio jack, but they come with a USB-C to Lightning cable.

They are a beautiful mix of vintage style with a modern twist.

The soft materials around the headband distribute the weight but provide extended comfort, while the stainless steel pods run over your ear without an Apple logo in sight. You can get them engraved if you order them on Apple’s website, however.

The Apple AirPods Max are using nine microphones for active noise-canceling, a 40mm dynamic driver for rich bass, and strong clarity in the mid-range.

The connectivity is strong when connecting to an iPhone, much like the traditional AirPods before it.

They offer 20-hours of high-fidelity audio, talk time, and movie playback.

Audio sharing allows you to stream between two sets of AirPods for listening parties and other uses.

The mesh-like earpads on the inside of the headphones are replaceable, but they do cost extra, however, this will enable you to customize the look of your Apple AirPods Max even further.

They currently provide the same colours as the current iPhone 12 lineup: space grey, silver, sky blue, green, and pink.

The Apple AirPods Max Case

Instead of a fully closed and zipped up case, Apple has gone in a different direction, a case that magnetically snaps between the ear cups and wraps around them.

One thing to note about the Apple AirPods Max case is that it’s not all-encompassing. There are still some areas on the case that will expose the headphones, like around the ports and mesh headband. Additionally, the form stays relatively the same and the ear cups or headband do not fold or bend in any way for more of a compact design.

They are never really fully off either, upon use or sitting on a desk as you get your coffee, they will stay on. It’s only when you are putting them into the case, the magnetic part of the case will activate the lower power mode, thus conserving the battery power.

The Bottom Line

I love the Apple AirPods Max but there are a few things we would like to add, not subtract from them. I love the unique design, unbranded, modern, and vintage look. That being said, I am concerned about a couple of things. The wear and discoloration of the white mesh headband, especially with long time wear and things like light exercising with the oils from your hair, might take the edge off the crisp look of the headphones. I would love to see the headphones in a black and white design. I would like to see a different case that would protect the elements more and I would like to see the ability to manage the battery a little more. All could be introduced quite easily when it comes to the overall design.

Not to mention, the Apple AirPods Max is $779 CAD, which is something else to consider. I believe these headphones are more for the consumer who likes a standout set of headphones that are using them for work, something low impact, and want to enjoy a great quality sound, all while staying in the Apple ecosystem.

I look forward to seeing how this department develops, but I do believe you are going to see some changes in the second-generation of the AirPods Max.
